Visiting Tokyo Gendai 2026, an International Art Fair
In September 2026, we visited Tokyo Gendai 2026, an international art fair held at Pacifico Yokohama.

Tokyo Gendai brings together galleries from Japan and around the world, showcasing diverse forms of contemporary art and introducing the latest developments in the field.

The fair featured galleries from Japan, Asia, Europe, the United States, and other regions, presenting a wide range of works including paintings, sculptures, photography, and video.

The visit provided an opportunity to observe the exhibition layouts and presentation styles of different galleries, as well as recent trends in artistic expression and themes within the contemporary art market.

In particular, bringing together galleries from different countries and regions created an environment where works reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives could be experienced in one venue, offering a different perspective on contemporary art from that of exhibitions held exclusively in Japan.

Beyond the individual artworks themselves, we also found many aspects of the fair valuable for considering future exhibitions and art projects, including the design of exhibition spaces, the combination of artworks, and approaches to engaging with visitors.
